The best steam oven for a countertop depends on how much steam you actually want. Some models are true combi-steam ovens with a water tank, several steam modes and settings that mix steam with convection heat. Others are air fryer ovens with a small water tray or a “steam infusion” feature that adds a little moisture to reheated food and roasts.
We compared six countertop models, from a budget steam-infusion air fryer to a 1.1-cubic-foot combi-steam oven, using only their Amazon listings. For each, we quote the steam modes, water tank details, temperature range and capacity as the brand states them, and we flag where a listing leaves them out. No built-in wall ovens are included; every pick sits on a counter and plugs into an outlet.
The big question is whether a premium combi-steam oven is worth it over a cheaper air fryer with steam. The answer comes down to tank size, steam control and how often you’d use it.

1. Nuwave Combi Steam Oven, 16 Qt: Best Overall Combi Steam Oven
Nuwave’s Combi Steam Oven is a 16-quart countertop oven built around adjustable steam. Its headline feature is a COMBO mode that, per Nuwave, steams for juicy interiors while air frying for crispy exteriors at the same time. It also steams on its own, air fries, roasts, bakes, toasts and runs a sous vide mode.
Control is the reason to buy it. The listing says you can adjust steam infusion levels and set temperature from 50°F to 450°F in 1°F increments, with moisture adjustable from 10% to 90%. That low end makes Nuwave’s “air sous vide” possible: the brand says it cooks with precise low heat and humidity, with no bags, sous vide machines or water baths needed. Nuwave also pitches steam-assisted toast and artisan bread, and desserts like crème brûlée.
Day to day, 120 presets and an LED display handle most cooks, and the listing says it is large enough to toast four slices of bread or cook 5 pounds of chicken, 3 pounds of fries or a 5-pound roast. In the box are an oven light, an air fry basket, a stainless tray, a heavy-duty rack, a dishwasher-safe detachable drip tray and a water tank with lid, plus a recipe book. The listing doesn’t give the tank’s capacity or describe a descaling routine.
It suits families and confident home cooks who want to experiment with steam, sous vide and air frying without a built-in oven. Plan counter space for a listed 14.75 x 13.88 x 14.88-inch, 21.4-pound appliance.
Why we like it
- Steam and air fry at once
- Fine-grained moisture control
- Sous vide without bags
Watch out for
The listing doesn’t state the water tank size or how to descale, so check the manual before you rely on it daily.

| Model | Nuwave Sous Vide Steam Oven |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #39,651 overall; #50 in Toaster Ovens (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Steam control is where Nuwave leads. The listing says you can “adjust steam infusion levels and temperature from 50°F to 450°F,” in “1°F precision increments,” with “moisture from 10-90%.” No other pick states a moisture percentage, and 50°F is the lowest starting temperature on the page.
Its COMBO mode will “Simultaneously steam for juicy interiors and air fry for crispy exteriors,” and “AIR SOUS VIDE” needs “No bags, sous vide machines, or water baths.” The box includes a “Dishwasher-safe detachable Drip Tray and Water Tank & Lid,” and there are “120 advanced interactive presets.” Amazon.com sells it, and the warranty field reads “1 year.”
Some details are missing. The tank’s capacity isn’t given, unlike CIARRA’s 33.8 ounces, and there’s no descaling mode like FOTILE’s. At 16 quarts it is smaller than the CIARRA and FOTILE. It is listed at 14.75 x 13.88 x 14.88 inches and 21.4 pounds, and ranks #50 in Toaster Ovens and #39,651 overall, just behind the Magnavox.
Cooks who want true steam, air frying and sous vide in one countertop unit at a lower tier than FOTILE should start here. Anyone who just wants moister leftovers can spend less on a steam-infusion model.
Pros
- Widest stated temperature range: 50°F to 450°F
- Moisture adjustable from 10–90%, per listing
- Bagless “air sous vide” mode
- 120 presets
- Dishwasher-safe water tank and drip tray
- Warranty field: “1 year”; sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Water tank size not stated
- Descaling not mentioned in the listing
- Listed 21.4 lb
- #50 in Toaster Ovens, #39,651 overall
Best for: A family cook who wants real steam control, air frying and sous vide-style cooking in one countertop oven.
2. FOTILE ChefCubii HYZK32-E3-B: Best Premium Combi-Steam Oven
FOTILE’s ChefCubii is a 1.1-cubic-foot countertop combi-steam oven that combines steaming, baking, roasting and air frying in one cavity. The listing adds keep warm, fermentation, soup making, steam cleaning, drying and descaling modes, and the title names dehydrating.
Steam gets real attention here. FOTILE lists four steam modes, Quick Steam, Standard Steam, Tender Steam and Over-Temperature Steam, backed by what it calls Dynamic Steam Balance Technology, which it says maintains humidity to preserve nutrients while preventing sogginess. For dry heat, FOTILE describes dual-zone temperature control with 360° convection, independent upper and lower zones using 1800W tubes, and precise ±1℉/℃ control.
The design details point at daily use. The external water tank refills without pausing cooking, and a directional steam vent is meant to protect nearby cabinetry from moisture. The cavity is 304 food-grade stainless steel with a ceramic-coated back panel, the bottom heating tube folds up for cleaning, and a triple-layer glass window stays cool, per FOTILE. Fifty preset menus cover dishes from steamed seafood to desserts. Its dedicated descaling mode matters for any steam oven used with hard tap water.
It suits households that would steam vegetables, fish and dumplings several times a week, bake bread, and want one large appliance to do it. Measure first: the listed size is 20.19 x 18.69 x 14.81 inches at 39.7 pounds.
Why we like it
- Four dedicated steam modes
- Refill the tank mid-cook
- Built-in descaling mode
Watch out for
At a listed 39.7 pounds and over 20 inches wide, it needs a dedicated stretch of counter, and the warranty field is empty.

| Model | HYZK32-E3 |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #142,266 overall; #54 in Convection Ovens (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
For steam features, FOTILE goes furthest: “Four Steam Modes with Precision Humidity Control: Featured Quick Steam, Standard Steam, Tender Steam, and Over-Temperature Steam.” No other pick names four.
It also lists “Dual-zone temperature control with 360° convection,” “1800W tubes,” “±1℉/℃ control” and “50 Preset Cooking Menus.” Practical touches include “the external water tank allows easy refills without pausing cooking” and “A directional steam vent protects nearby cabinetry from moisture.” It is the only pick whose listing names a “descaling” mode. At 1.1 cubic feet, it is the largest stated capacity here. Amazon.com sells it.
Size and paperwork are the drawbacks. It is the heaviest and widest pick, listed at 39.7 pounds and 20.19 x 18.69 x 14.81 inches. The warranty field is empty, while CIARRA lists two years and Nuwave one. Its rank, #54 in Convection Ovens and #142,266 overall, is the weakest on the page, and it is the most expensive pick. The listing doesn’t state a temperature range or tank size.
Households that would steam and bake often, and have a large stretch of counter, get a near-built-in experience. Small kitchens and occasional users will find the Nuwave easier to live with.
Pros
- Largest stated capacity: 1.1 cu. ft.
- Four named steam modes
- Only listing with a descaling mode
- External tank refills without pausing cooking
- Directional steam vent to protect cabinets
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Heaviest pick: listed 39.7 lb
- Largest footprint: 20.19 x 18.69 x 14.81 in
- Warranty field empty
- Weakest rank here: #142,266 overall
Best for: A cook who wants a full combi-steam oven with several steam modes and has the counter space for a large unit.
3. CIARRA Nosh Oven Pro, 25.4 Qt: Best Countertop Steam Oven With a Stated Tank Size
CIARRA’s Nosh Oven Pro is a 25.4-quart countertop steam oven that doubles as an air fryer and convection oven. The bullets list 11 cooking modes: convection, steam, rapid steam, air fryer, bake, ferment, dehydrate, warm, sterilize, reheat and preset menus, while the title calls it 12-in-1.
The water tank is the detail other listings skip. CIARRA states a 33.8-ounce tank and says it means no frequent refills mid-cook. Rapid steam and steam convection functions are pitched for moist seafood, chicken and bread, and CIARRA says the convection system heats quickly, cutting preheating time compared with traditional ovens. Temperature runs from 85°F to 430°F.
Around the kitchen, it can ferment dough, dehydrate snacks, sterilize baby bottles and keep meals warm, according to the listing. A programmable timer and preset menus handle routine cooking, and a built-in steam clean function is meant to loosen grease on the oven interior. The box includes the oven, an air fryer basket, a baking pan, an oven rack, the water tank, an oven mitt and a CIARRA recipe book. The listed size is 14 x 16 x 17 inches; the weight field is empty.
It suits families who want generous steam capacity, parents who would use the sterilize mode, and bread bakers who want steam and fermentation in one box. CIARRA lists a two-year warranty.
Why we like it
- 33.8 oz water tank
- Big 25.4 qt cavity
- Ferment, dehydrate and sterilize modes
Watch out for
Its 430°F top temperature is lower than most picks, and the listing doesn’t give a weight or a descaling routine.
Key Specifications
| Type | Countertop steam oven with air fryer |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 25.4 qt |
| Water tank | 33.8 oz |
| Temperature | 85°F–430°F |
| Included | Air fryer basket, baking pan, rack, water tank, oven mitt, recipe book |
| Size | 14 x 16 x 17 in |
| Listed weight | Empty on the listing; not stated. |
| Warranty | 2 years |
| Model | CASO24-W |
| Seller | AirWin Group HK Limited |
| Best Sellers Rank | #101,427 overall; #34 in Convection Ovens (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
One number sets CIARRA apart: “The 33.8oz large water tank means no frequent refills mid-cook.” It is the only listing here that states a tank capacity.
The bullets list “convection, steam, rapid steam, air fryer, bake, ferment, dehydrate, warm, sterilize, reheat, and preset menus” in a “25.4QT” cavity, second only to the FOTILE’s 1.1 cubic feet. A “built-in steam clean function” helps with grease, and the box includes “1 oven mitt and 1 CIARRA Recipe Book.” The warranty field reads “2 years,” the longest on the page.
Trade-offs: the range is “85°F-430°F,” the lowest stated top temperature here; Nuwave, Our Place and Magnavox reach 450°F. The title says 12-in-1, but the bullets list 11 modes. The weight field is empty, and there’s no named descaling mode. It ranks #34 in Convection Ovens and #101,427 overall. The seller, AirWin Group HK Limited, is the registered owner of the CIARRA trademark.
Families who steam in batches and want fewer refills, plus a two-year warranty field, should shortlist it. Cooks who need high-heat roasting above 430°F should look at the Nuwave.
Pros
- Only stated tank size here: 33.8 oz
- Rapid steam and steam convection modes
- 25.4 qt capacity
- Steam clean function
- Warranty field: “2 years”, the longest here
- Sold by CIARRA’s trademark owner, AirWin Group
Cons
- Weight field empty
- Top temperature 430°F, lowest stated here
- Title says 12-in-1; bullets list 11 modes
- #34 in Convection Ovens, #101,427 overall
Best for: A household that steams in big batches and wants a large tank, a big cavity and a two-year warranty field.
4. Tovala Smart Oven Pro: Best Smart Steam Oven
The Tovala Smart Oven Pro is a 6-in-1 countertop oven that steams, air fries, bakes, broils, reheats and toasts, controlled through a smartphone app. Its distinguishing idea is automation: you can build custom cook cycles that use one mode or several in sequence, such as steaming to cook through and then broiling to brown.
Most of the daily convenience comes from the app. Tovala says it sends notifications when your meal is ready, gives access to hundreds of presets and chef recipes with prep steps, and lets you scan more than 1,000 name-brand grocery and frozen items so the oven sets the cook for you. The listing says there’s no need to preheat. An air fryer basket and a compact sheet pan come in the box.
Tovala also sells a meal subscription that works with the oven, sold separately; the listing says you can pause, skip or cancel it at any time. The oven works without it. What the listing doesn’t give is a capacity, a temperature range or any water tank details, and one bullet calls it a “microwave air fryer combo” even though microwave isn’t among the six modes listed, so treat that wording with caution. The listed size is 12.32 x 18.5 x 11.75 inches at 22 pounds, and the warranty field reads one year.
It suits people who like app-driven cooking, households that lean on frozen and packaged foods, and anyone curious about Tovala’s meal service.
Why we like it
- Multi-step steam-to-broil cycles
- Grocery barcode scanning
- No preheat, per listing
Watch out for
The listing skips capacity, temperature range and tank size, and much of the appeal depends on the app.
Key Specifications
| Type | App-controlled countertop steam and air fry oven |
|---|---|
| Modes | Air fry, steam, bake, broil, reheat, toast |
| Control | Smartphone app; custom multi-mode cycles |
| Included | Air fryer basket, compact sheet pan |
| Listed size / weight | 12.32 x 18.5 x 11.75 in / 22 lb |
| Size | 12.32 x 18.5 x 11.75 in |
| Listed weight | 22 pounds |
| Warranty | 1 year |
| Model | Tovala Smart Oven Pro |
| Seller | Tovala |
| Best Sellers Rank | #89,955 overall; #70 in Toaster Ovens (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Automation is Tovala’s case. The listing says you can “Create custom, automated cook cycles with 1 or more modes,” control it from a “Integrated Smartphone App,” “receive notifications when your meal is ready,” and scan “over 1,000 scannable groceries.”
The six modes are “Air Fry, Steam, Bake, Broil, Reheat, and Toast.” The listing adds “No need to preheat” and includes an “air fryer basket and compact sheet pan.” The warranty field reads “1 year,” matching Nuwave, and the seller is Tovala’s own store. It is listed at 12.32 x 18.5 x 11.75 inches and 22 pounds.
Specs are thin for a steam oven. No capacity, temperature range or water tank details are given, while Nuwave, CIARRA and FOTILE describe their steam systems. One bullet calls it a “microwave air fryer combo,” but microwave isn’t among the listed modes. Tovala’s meal subscription is “sold separately.” It ranks #70 in Toaster Ovens and #89,955 overall.
App-first cooks and households that rely on packaged and frozen foods will get the most from it. Anyone who wants to judge steam performance by the numbers should pick a listing that states them.
Pros
- Chain modes into automated cook cycles
- Smartphone app with notifications
- Scan 1,000+ grocery items for cook settings
- Air fryer basket and sheet pan included
- Warranty field: “1 year”; sold by the Tovala store
Cons
- Capacity and temperature range not stated
- Water tank details not stated
- Meal subscription is sold separately
- Bullet calls it a “microwave air fryer combo,” but no microwave mode is listed
Best for: A busy cook who wants to set steam and air fry cycles from a phone, or scan packaged foods instead of choosing settings.
5. Our Place Wonder Oven, 13 Qt: Best Compact Steam-Infusion Oven
Our Place’s Wonder Oven is a compact 6-in-1 countertop oven that air fries, bakes, roasts, toasts, broils and reheats. It isn’t a full steam oven. Instead, it uses what Our Place calls exclusive steam infusion technology: you add 1 to 2 teaspoons of water, and the oven lifts that moisture back into the food.
That small dose of steam is aimed at specific jobs. The listing names refreshing stale bread and leftover lunches for a just-made feeling. For everything else, a 360° convection system circulates heat across both racks, and Our Place says it delivers crisp, golden vegetables, proteins and sides without the bulk of a standalone air fryer oven. Temperature runs from 200°F to 450°F, and Our Place claims it preheats 75% faster than traditional ovens.
Size is the other selling point. The 12-liter interior has two cooking levels, handles meals for two to four people and fits a whole 4.5-pound chicken with room to spare, per the listing. The title calls it 13 quarts; 12 liters works out to about 12.7 quarts by our math. Outside, the listed size is 10.6 x 11.5 x 11.6 inches at 11.6 pounds. A wire rack, air fry basket, bake pan and crumb tray come with it.
It suits apartments, couples and anyone who mostly wants to reheat well and crisp food, with steam as a helpful extra rather than the main event.
Why we like it
- Compact, two-level design
- Teaspoon steam infusion for leftovers
- Popular, per sales rank
Watch out for
Steam here is a teaspoon-scale assist, not a steam mode, so it won’t steam vegetables or fish the way a tank-fed oven does.
Key Specifications
| Type | Compact air fryer toaster oven with steam infusion |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 12L interior, 2 levels (title: 13 Qt) |
| Steam | Steam infusion, 1–2 teaspoons of water |
| Temperature | 200°F–450°F |
| Listed size / weight | 10.6 x 11.5 x 11.6 in / 11.6 lb |
| Size | 10.6 x 11.5 x 11.6 in |
| Listed weight | 11.6 pounds |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | APL.WDO.ESN.CHR |
| Seller | Our Place |
| Best Sellers Rank | #1,263 overall; #4 in Toaster Ovens (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Popularity and size lead here. The Wonder Oven ranks #4 in Toaster Ovens and #1,263 overall, by far the best rank on this page, and its listed 10.6 x 11.5 x 11.6 inches and 11.6 pounds make it one of the most compact picks here (only the Magnavox lists smaller numbers, which look doubtful).
Steam is modest by design: “Just 1–2 teaspoons of water lift moisture back into food, refreshing items like stale bread, and leftover lunches.” Cooking runs on “A powerful 360° convection system” across “two cooking levels,” with a “200–450°F range.” The “12L interior” handles “meals for 2–4 people” and fits “a whole 4.5 lb chicken.” Our Place’s own store is the seller.
Gaps to know: there is no dedicated steam mode or tank, unlike the Nuwave, FOTILE and CIARRA. The title says 13 Qt while the bullet says 12L, about 12.7 quarts by our math. The warranty field is empty, and “Preheats 75% faster than traditional ovens” is the brand’s own comparison.
Small households that want crisp food and better leftovers in little counter space are the right buyers. Anyone who wants to steam vegetables or fish needs a tank-fed model.
Pros
- Best rank here: #4 in Toaster Ovens, #1,263 overall
- Steam infusion with 1–2 teaspoons of water
- Two cooking levels; fits a 4.5 lb chicken, per listing
- 200°F–450°F range
- Compact: listed 10.6 x 11.5 x 11.6 in
- Sold by the Our Place store
Cons
- No dedicated steam mode or water tank
- Title says 13 Qt; bullet says 12L interior
- Warranty field empty
- “75% faster” preheat is the brand’s own claim
Best for: A household of two to four with limited counter space that wants a little steam to refresh bread and leftovers.
6. Magnavox Home 16.5 Qt Air Fryer Oven With Steam Infusion: Best Budget Steam-Infusion Air Fryer Oven
Magnavox Home’s 16.5-quart air fryer oven is a budget countertop oven that adds a steam infusion feature to the usual air fryer and toaster oven functions. A six-stage function selector covers air fry, toast, roast, dehydrate, broil and bake, and a water tray in the box supplies the moisture.
Magnavox says the built-in steam infusion technology helps lock in moisture for tender meats, better reheating and good texture with less oil. Convection circulates hot air for crunchy fries, wings and snacks, and a diamond-pattern back panel is designed, per the listing, to improve airflow and heat circulation for more even cooking. Temperature runs from 200°F to 450°F, from low-temperature dehydrating up to high-heat crisping and broiling.
Daily use is simple. A viewing window and interior light let you check food without opening the door, and a 60-minute timer rings a bell at the end of the cycle. Accessories include a fry basket, an enamel baking tray, a crumb tray and the water tray. The listing gives the size as 11 x 11 x 9 inches and the weight as 10 pounds; that size seems small for a 16.5-quart cavity, so measure the real unit against your counter.
It suits budget buyers, first-time air fryer owners and anyone who wants a little moisture help for roasts and reheats without paying for a full combi-steam oven.
Why we like it
- Big capacity for the tier
- Water tray for added moisture
- Window and light
Watch out for
Steam is an assist from a water tray, not a programmable steam mode, and the listed dimensions look doubtful.
Key Specifications
| Type | Air fryer oven with water tray |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 16.5 qt (title) |
| Functions | Air fry, toast, roast, dehydrate, broil, bake |
| Steam | Steam infusion via water tray |
| Temperature / timer | 200°F–450°F / 60-minute timer with bell |
| Size | 11 x 11 x 9 in |
| Listed weight | 10 pounds |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | MAF16000; made by CURTIS |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #39,292 overall; #49 in Toaster Ovens (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Price is the Magnavox’s argument: it sits in the lowest tier on the page while listing “16.5 qt” of capacity and “Built-in steam infusion technology” to “lock in moisture for tender meats, better reheating.”
The “6-stage function selector offers Air Fry, Toast, Roast, Dehydrate, Broil, and Bake,” with a “200°F–450°F” range and a “Diamond-Pattern Back Panel” for airflow. Accessories include a “fry basket, enamel baking tray, crumb tray, and water tray.” A “Viewing Window + Interior Light” and “60-Minute Timer with Bell Alert” round it out. Amazon.com sells it, and it ranks #49 in Toaster Ovens and #39,292 overall, second only to Our Place here.
Steam is an assist from a water tray, not a selectable steam mode like the Nuwave, FOTILE or CIARRA offer. The listed 11 x 11 x 9 inches is hard to square with 16.5 quarts, so measure the real unit. The warranty field is empty, and the 60-minute timer rules out long, slow cooks that the Nuwave’s sous vide mode handles.
Budget shoppers who want a large air fryer oven with some added moisture should consider it. Anyone set on real steaming should save for a combi-steam model.
Pros
- Lowest price tier here
- 16.5 qt capacity, per title
- Water tray for steam infusion
- 200°F–450°F range
- Window and interior light
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- No dedicated steam mode; steam is an assist
- Listed 11 x 11 x 9 in seems too small for 16.5 qt
- Warranty field empty
- Timer limited to 60 minutes
Best for: A budget shopper who wants an air fryer oven with a little added moisture for meats and reheating.
How We Chose the Best Steam Ovens
Every pick is a countertop model, in stock and sold by Amazon.com or the brand’s own store. We compared what each listing states:
- Type of steam: named steam modes fed by a tank, versus a teaspoon or water-tray “steam infusion” assist.
- Water tank: stated size and how you refill it.
- Combi functions: air fry, convection, sous vide, proofing and dehydrating.
- Capacity and footprint: quarts or cubic feet, plus listed dimensions and weight.
- Cleaning and descaling: steam clean or descale modes where the listing names them.
- Warranty and rank: the warranty field and Amazon sales rank.

Steam Oven Buying Guide
Is a Premium Steam Oven Worth It?
It depends on how often you’d use real steam. The FOTILE ChefCubii, Nuwave Combi and CIARRA Nosh Oven Pro have steam modes fed from a tank, and Tovala lists steam among its six modes. The Our Place Wonder Oven and Magnavox add a small amount of water for “steam infusion,” which helps reheated bread and roasts stay moist but won’t steam a tray of vegetables. If you mostly air fry and reheat, a steam-infusion model costs far less. If you’d steam fish, dumplings or vegetables several times a week, or bake bread with steam, a combi-steam model earns its price.
Best Combi Steam Oven Features
“Combi” means steam and dry heat together. Nuwave describes a COMBO mode that steams and air fries at once, with moisture adjustable from 10–90%. FOTILE lists four steam modes, including Over-Temperature Steam, alongside dual-zone convection. CIARRA lists steam convection and rapid steam. Tovala lets you chain modes in an app, such as steam followed by broil. If you want an air fryer oven without steam, our air fryer oven guide covers French door, rotisserie and smart models.

Water Tank Size and Refills
Only CIARRA states a tank size: 33.8 ounces. FOTILE says its external tank refills without pausing cooking, and Nuwave includes a dishwasher-safe water tank with lid but doesn’t give its capacity. Our Place uses 1–2 teaspoons of water, and Magnavox a water tray. Tovala’s listing doesn’t describe its water supply. Fill tanks with fresh water each session and empty them afterward so nothing sits warm inside.
Best Countertop Steam Oven Size
Capacity ranges from the 12-liter Our Place to the 1.1-cubic-foot FOTILE, about 33 quarts by our math. Footprints differ even more: the Our Place is listed at 10.6 x 11.5 x 11.6 inches and 11.6 pounds, the FOTILE at 20.19 x 18.69 x 14.81 inches and 39.7 pounds. For toast and small reheats only, a toaster oven may be all you need.

Best Steam Oven Countertop Care: Descaling and Cleaning
Every steam oven boils water, and hard water leaves mineral scale in tanks, lines and steam outlets. FOTILE is the only pick whose listing names a descaling mode; CIARRA and FOTILE both list a steam clean function for the cavity. For the others, follow the manual’s descaling schedule, and if your water is hard, use filtered water or descale more often. Our hard water cleaner guide covers limescale removers, but use only the descaler your oven’s manual allows inside the appliance.

Steam Burns, Outlets and Counter Clearance
- Open the door slowly and stand back. Steam escapes in a burst when the door opens. Open it a crack, keep your face and forearms clear, and use dry mitts. The USFA’s burn and scald guidance says to treat a burn right away by putting it in cool water for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Unplug it when you’re done. The USFA’s appliance and electrical safety page says to unplug small appliances when you are not using them and to replace any appliance with a cracked, damaged or loose cord.
- Leave clearance. Steam vents can soak wall cabinets above and behind the oven; FOTILE adds a directional steam vent for this reason. Pull the oven out from under cabinets while it runs and follow the clearances in your manual.
- Stay nearby. The U.S. Fire Administration says unattended equipment was the leading factor contributing to ignition in nonconfined home cooking fires (37%).
- Check your coverage. Kitchen fires and water damage are both insurance questions. See our Ohio homeowners insurance guide or renters insurance costs in Ohio.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best steam oven for most kitchens?
The Nuwave Combi Steam Oven is our overall pick. Its listing gives a 50°F to 450°F range, moisture adjustable from 10–90%, a COMBO steam-and-air-fry mode, 120 presets and a 16-quart capacity, and Amazon.com sells it.
What is the best combi steam oven for the countertop?
For the most steam features, the FOTILE ChefCubii lists four steam modes, dual-zone convection, air fry and a descaling mode in a 1.1-cubic-foot cavity. It is also the largest and heaviest pick, at a listed 39.7 pounds.
Is a steam infusion air fryer the same as a steam oven?
No. The Our Place Wonder Oven uses 1–2 teaspoons of water and the Magnavox a water tray to add moisture. Tank-fed steam ovens like the FOTILE, Nuwave and CIARRA have dedicated steam modes that can steam food on their own.
Do countertop steam ovens need descaling?
Yes, any appliance that boils water builds mineral scale, especially with hard water. FOTILE is the only pick whose listing names a descaling mode. For the others, follow the manual’s schedule and approved descaler.
How do I avoid steam burns from a steam oven?
Open the door slowly, stand to the side, and let the first burst of steam clear before reaching in with dry mitts. If you are burned, the USFA says to cool the burn in cool water for 3 to 5 minutes.
The Bottom Line
The Nuwave Combi Steam Oven is the best steam oven for most countertops, with fine moisture control, a steam-plus-air-fry mode and a family-size cavity. The FOTILE ChefCubii is the premium choice with four steam modes and a descaling mode, the CIARRA Nosh Oven Pro brings a stated 33.8-ounce tank and a two-year warranty field, and the Tovala suits app-driven cooks. If you mostly reheat and air fry, the Our Place Wonder Oven and Magnavox add a little steam for far less money and space.
