Chenille, Memory Foam or Under-the-Door Thin? The Best Bath Rug for a Wet Floor

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. This doesn’t change our recommendations or the price you pay.

The rug outside your tub or shower has two jobs: soak up the water you drip, and stay put while you step on it with wet feet. The best bath rug for your bathroom depends on the backing underneath, how thick the pile is, whether it has to clear a door, and how easily it goes through the wash.

We compared six rugs from their Amazon listings: two plush chenille options (one a two-piece set), a thick memory foam mat, a fluffy microfiber rug, a waffle-weave mat and an ultra-thin rubber-backed rug. Every pick was in stock and sold by the brand’s own store when we checked, with one pick per brand, and all six fall in the under-$50 tier.

These are rugs for the floor outside the tub. For a mat that goes inside the tub, see our best bathtub mat guide. Non-slip and absorbency wording below is the brand’s own, and we flag listing fields that don’t add up.

1. Gorilla Grip Chenille Bath Rug, 24 x 17: Best Overall

Gorilla Grip Chenille Bath Rug, 24 x 17

Gorilla Grip’s chenille bath rug is a plush, thick-pile mat for the floor in front of a tub, shower or sink. The 24 x 17-inch size fits most standard bathrooms, and Gorilla Grip describes the chenille as “almost one inch thick,” a plush pile meant to soothe feet and keep them off a cold floor.

Absorbency is the main pitch. Gorilla Grip calls it its “most absorbent bath rug” and says the dense chenille pile captures extra moisture as you step out of the bath or shower. The fabric is a microfiber that the brand says also dries quickly.

Underneath is a textured rubber backing. Gorilla Grip says it uses TP rubber instead of PVC or hot glue, which it says break down with washing, and that its TPR mats were third-party tested to be washed and dried repeatedly. The listing says you can machine wash and dry the rug as often as needed, that it is fade resistant, and that it was tested for harmful substances according to OEKO-TEX Standard 100. The brand also notes a 2026 HuffPost Shopping Award.

It suits most households that want one soft, absorbent rug by the tub or shower and an easy machine-wash routine. If the door has to swing over it, measure first, because a pile close to an inch can catch the door.

Why we like it

  • Rubber (TPR) backing
  • Washer and dryer safe
  • Top-ranked bath rug here

Watch out for

The pile is close to an inch thick, so check the clearance under a bathroom door before buying.

SellerGORILLA COMMERCE
Best Sellers Rank#80 overall; #2 in Bath Rugs (Oct 2026)

Why We Recommend It

Rank is the first argument: #2 in Bath Rugs and #80 overall, well ahead of every other pick here (the next best is AMOAMI at #284). GORILLA COMMERCE, the brand’s store, sells it.

The backing is a “durable TP Rubber Backing,” and Gorilla Grip says its TPR mats “have been third party tested to be washed and dried over and over again.” Only Yimobra also names TPR; OLANLY uses PVC and H.VERSAILTEX a sprayed coating. It’s also the only pick whose listing says plainly to “machine wash and dry as often as needed,” and it claims OEKO-TEX Standard 100 testing, as OLANLY does.

Some gaps: the chenille is “almost one inch thick,” so it may catch a door, and the specs list the height as 0 inches, an empty value. At 24 x 17 inches it is smaller than the OLANLY (30 x 20) or Bosap (17 x 27). The warranty field is empty, and the HuffPost award is the brand’s mention.

Most homes should start here for a soft, washable rug with a rubber-type backing. Anyone with a tight door should choose the Bosap instead.

Pros

  • Best rank here: #2 in Bath Rugs, #80 overall
  • TP rubber backing, per listing
  • Machine wash and dry, per listing
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tested, per listing
  • Pile “almost one inch thick,” per Gorilla Grip

Cons

  • Specs size field lists 0-inch height
  • At nearly an inch, too thick for some doors
  • Warranty field empty
  • 24 x 17 inches is a small footprint

Best for: Most bathrooms: a soft, absorbent rug with a rubber backing that can go through the washer and dryer.

2. Bosap Ultra Thin Bath Mat, 17 x 27: Best Thin Bath Mat

Bosap Ultra Thin Bath Mat, 17 x 27

Bosap’s Ultra Thin Bath Mat is built for one problem: the door that won’t close over a fluffy rug. The listing gives a thickness “as low as 0.2 inches,” thin enough, Bosap says, to sit behind a door without tangling when it closes. The size is 17 x 27 inches.

The top is terry cloth, which Bosap describes as a cotton material that dries your feet and keeps water in the mat instead of spreading across the floor. The brand calls it super absorbent and quick drying. A low pile also means less fluff to catch toes or a walker’s feet.

Underneath is a rubber backing that Bosap says keeps the mat from moving around and gives traction on a wet tile floor. Care is simple: wash it by hand or in the machine with cold water and mild detergent, no chlorine or bleach, and dry at low speed and temperature. Bosap says it won’t fade or crack after washing, and also suggests it for kitchens, laundry rooms and entryways.

It suits tight bathrooms, doors with little clearance, and households that would rather have a flat mat than a thick one. Anyone who prizes a cushy feel underfoot will find more padding in the chenille and memory foam picks.

Why we like it

  • Clears most doors
  • Rubber backing
  • Low edge to step over

Watch out for

Thin terry is less cushioned than chenille or foam, and the listing asks for cold washes and low-heat drying.

SellerBosap Direct
Best Sellers Rank#472 overall; #7 in Bath Rugs (Oct 2026)

Why We Recommend It

Thickness decides this one. Bosap lists “a thickness as low as 0.2 inches” and says the mat can sit “behind a door without being entangled with fluff upon closing the door.” The specs agree at 0.2 inch, the thinnest pick here by a wide margin.

Its rubber backing is meant to keep the mat from moving “around” on wet tile, per Bosap, and the top is terry cloth. At 17 x 27 inches it is longer than the 24 x 17 rugs. It ranks #7 in Bath Rugs and #472 overall, fourth-best here, and Bosap Direct sells it.

Care is more particular than Gorilla Grip’s: “machine wash with cold water and mild detergent (no chlorine or bleach), dry at low speed and temperatures.” The weight and warranty fields are empty. A thin terry mat also gives less cushion than the OLANLY foam or the chenille rugs.

Choose it for a door that drags, a small bathroom, or a household that wants the lowest edge to step over. Skip it if a soft, cushioned feel matters more than clearance.

Pros

  • Thinnest here: as low as 0.2 inch, per listing
  • Rubber backing, per listing
  • Machine washable
  • #7 in Bath Rugs, #472 overall
  • Larger than the 24 x 17 rugs: 17 x 27 in

Cons

  • Weight field empty
  • Warranty field empty
  • Thin pile is less cushioned
  • No chlorine bleach; low-heat drying only

Best for: A bathroom where the door swings over the mat, or anyone who wants a low-profile rug with less of an edge to trip on.

3. OLANLY Thick Memory Foam Bath Mat, 30 x 20: Best Memory Foam Bath Mat

OLANLY Thick Memory Foam Bath Mat, 30 x 20

OLANLY’s Thick Memory Foam Bathroom Rug pairs a soft velvet top with a thick memory foam cushion that the brand says contours under your feet. At 30 x 20 inches it covers more floor than a typical 24 x 17 mat, and the specs list it at one inch thick.

Day to day, it is meant to catch drips and add cushion where you stand: in front of the tub, the shower or the vanity. OLANLY says it absorbs moisture quickly after a bath or shower. The listing notes the soft material can compress in shipping, so allow about an inch of tolerance on the stated size.

The backing is PVC, which OLANLY says gives good grip and helps avoid shifting or curling. The listing is specific about how to use it: keep the floor underneath dry and never place the mat on wet surfaces. It is machine washable on a cold, gentle cycle with no chlorine or bleach, then tumble dried on low or laid flat to air dry, and OLANLY says it was tested for harmful substances under OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

It suits people who want cushion underfoot at the sink or tub, in bathrooms where the floor under the mat stays dry. Anyone who shuffles or uses a walker should think about the raised foam edge.

Why we like it

  • Most cushion here
  • Biggest single rug
  • Washer friendly

Watch out for

OLANLY says to keep the floor under it dry, and a one-inch foam edge can catch a shuffling foot.

SellerOLANLY
Best Sellers Rank#1,080 overall; #15 in Bath Rugs (Oct 2026)

Why We Recommend It

Cushion and coverage set the OLANLY apart. It is the only memory foam pick, at 30 x 20 inches the largest single rug here, and the specs list it at one inch thick, matching the plushest options.

The backing is the trade-off. OLANLY uses “strong PVC backing” and argues that rubber “may crack over time,” while Gorilla Grip argues the opposite. The listing’s own instructions are worth heeding: “keep the floor underneath dry. Never place on wet surfaces.” It is machine washable cold and gentle, and can be tumble dried low or air dried. OLANLY claims OEKO-TEX Standard 100 testing.

Listing quality is mixed. The model field reads “Kitchen Mats,” a placeholder, and the weight field is empty. OLANLY also asks you to allow about one inch of size tolerance. It ranks #15 in Bath Rugs, the lowest rank of our picks.

Pick it if you stand at the vanity or tub for a while and want soft foam underfoot. Skip it if the floor under the rug often stays wet, or if someone in the home shuffles and could catch the foam edge.

Pros

  • Largest single rug here: 30 x 20 in
  • Thick memory foam with velvet top, per listing
  • Machine washable; tumble dry low or air dry
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tested, per listing
  • #15 in Bath Rugs, #1,080 overall

Cons

  • PVC backing, not rubber
  • Listing says to keep the floor underneath dry
  • Model field reads “Kitchen Mats” (placeholder)
  • Weight field empty
  • 1-inch foam can be a trip edge

Best for: Someone who stands at the sink or tub for a while and wants the most cushion, on a floor that stays dry under the mat.

4. H.VERSAILTEX Chenille Bath Rug Set of 2: Best Bath Rug Set

H.VERSAILTEX Chenille Bath Rug Set of 2

H.VERSAILTEX sells this bath rug as a two-piece set: a 32 x 20-inch rug and a 24 x 17-inch rug in a striped chenille shag. That lets you put the larger one by the tub or shower and the smaller one at the sink or toilet, in a sage color with a matching pattern.

Pile weight is the brand’s main claim. H.VERSAILTEX compares a normal 1350 g/sm rug with its own pile of up to 2000 g/sm, which it says makes the rugs thicker, softer and bushier. It also says the rugs passed a Global Recycled Standard certificate and soak up water “like a giant sponge,” in the brand’s words.

The backing is an SBE/hot melt spray that H.VERSAILTEX calls slip-resistant and says holds the mats firmly in place. Care instructions ask you to machine wash the rugs separately in cold water with mild detergent, use only non-chlorine bleach, tumble dry on low and shake to restore the fluff. Between washes, the brand suggests simply picking the rug up and shaking it.

It suits anyone furnishing a bathroom from scratch who wants matching rugs for two spots, and who likes a thick, colorful shag look. The brand says other colors and sizes are offered, so you can match a shower curtain or towels you already own.

Why we like it

  • Two sizes in one order
  • Heavy chenille pile
  • Tumble-dry care

Watch out for

The backing is a sprayed coating rather than rubber or TPR, and the listing’s size field doesn’t match the title.

ModelPART-HVTZBATHMAT-1724/2032C14SAGE
SellerH.VERSAILTEX
Best Sellers Rank#381 overall; #5 in Bath Rugs (Oct 2026)

Why We Recommend It

Two rugs for one order is the draw: the title lists a “32 x 20 Plus 24 x 17” set, the only multi-piece pick here. It ranks #5 in Bath Rugs and #381 overall, and H.VERSAILTEX sells it directly.

The brand stresses pile weight, “up to 2000g/sm” against a “normal quality 1350g/sm,” and says the rugs “passed GLOBAL RECYCLED STANDARD certificate.” Care is spelled out: “Machine wash separately in cold water,” “non-chlorine bleach” only and “Tumble dry on low setting.”

Two cautions. The backing is “SBE/Hot melt spray,” a coating rather than the TPR or rubber that Gorilla Grip, Yimobra and Bosap list. And the specs size field reads 36 x 24 x 0.01 inches, which matches neither rug in the title; we go by the title. The warranty field is empty.

Buy it to furnish a tub and a sink spot with matching rugs. If a rubber-type backing is your priority, the Gorilla Grip or Yimobra lists one.

Pros

  • Two rugs: 32 x 20 and 24 x 17 in, per title
  • Global Recycled Standard certificate, per listing
  • Heavy 2000 g/sm pile, per H.VERSAILTEX
  • #5 in Bath Rugs, #381 overall
  • Machine washable; tumble dry low

Cons

  • Backing is SBE/hot melt spray, not rubber
  • Size field (36 x 24 x 0.01 in) doesn’t match the title
  • Warranty field empty
  • Thick shag may not clear a door

Best for: A bathroom that needs two matching rugs, one by the tub or shower and one at the sink.

5. AMOAMI Waffle Bath Mat, 17 x 24: Best Absorbent Waffle Bath Mat

AMOAMI Waffle Bath Mat, 17 x 24

AMOAMI’s Waffle Bath Mat swaps fluffy pile for a power-loomed waffle weave. The 17 x 24-inch mat uses what AMOAMI calls heavier, thicker threads to keep the pattern solid, and the specs list it at half an inch thick, lower than the chenille and memory foam picks.

The texture does the absorbing. AMOAMI describes a double layer of deep waffle texture that takes in water quickly and breathes, and says the yarns are inherently absorbent. The three-dimensional weave is meant to feel soft underfoot without the bulk of a shag rug.

On the back is a clear rubber backing that AMOAMI describes as HMA, or hot melt adhesive, “invisible but touchable,” and says grips the floor. Cleaning is a gentle machine cycle in cold water, or shaking the dust off between washes; the listing gives no dryer instructions. Two fields look off: the specs give a weight of 6.61 pounds, far too heavy for a mat this size, and the manufacturer field reads “qxc.”

It suits bathrooms with a boho or natural look, and people who prefer a flatter mat that dries out between showers instead of a thick, plush rug. At half an inch, it also sits lower than the plush picks, though not as low as an ultra-thin mat if your door clearance is tight.

Why we like it

  • Flat waffle weave
  • Clear grip backing
  • Popular in Bath Rugs

Watch out for

No dryer guidance is listed, and the weight and manufacturer fields look wrong, so lean on the photos and size.

Key Specifications

TypeWaffle weave, clear hot-melt backing
Size17 x 24 in

BackingClear rubber (HMA hot melt adhesive)

WarrantyNot stated in listing
ModelNot stated in listing
SellerAMOAMI
Best Sellers Rank#284 overall; #4 in Bath Rugs (Oct 2026)

Why We Recommend It

Popularity counts in AMOAMI’s favor: #4 in Bath Rugs and #284 overall, second only to Gorilla Grip among our picks. AMOAMI’s own store sells it.

It takes a different approach from the plush rugs. A “Double layer of deep waffle texture” does the absorbing, and the specs list it at 0.5 inch thick, flatter than the chenille, microfiber and foam picks but thicker than the Bosap’s 0.2 inch. The backing is “clear rubber backing(HMA-Hot Melt Adhesive, invisible but touchable),” which AMOAMI says “firmly grips the ground.” Care is a gentle cold cycle.

Treat some fields with care. The listed weight of 6.61 pounds is not believable for a 17 x 24-inch mat, the manufacturer field reads “qxc,” and the model and warranty fields are empty. Unlike Gorilla Grip, Bosap, OLANLY and H.VERSAILTEX, it gives no dryer instructions.

Choose it for a flatter, woven look that dries between showers. If you want a thick, soft pile, the Gorilla Grip or Yimobra fits better.

Pros

  • #4 in Bath Rugs, #284 overall
  • Double-layer waffle texture, per listing
  • Clear rubber backing (hot melt adhesive), per listing
  • Machine washable on gentle
  • Lower profile than the plush picks (0.5 in, per specs)

Cons

  • Listed weight of 6.61 lb is implausible for a 17 x 24 mat
  • Manufacturer field reads “qxc”; model field empty
  • No dryer instructions given
  • Warranty field empty

Best for: Someone who wants a flatter, woven mat with a boho look rather than a fluffy rug.

6. Yimobra Fluffy Bathroom Rug, 24 x 17: Best Non-Slip Plush Rug

Yimobra Fluffy Bathroom Rug, 24 x 17

Yimobra’s fluffy bathroom rug is a two-tone light gray and white microfiber mat sized at 24 x 17 inches. The specs list it at 0.79 inch thick and one pound. Yimobra says the elastic microfiber resists sinking or flattening, and that the thick, soft pile makes a comfortable place to kneel while bathing kids.

For drying, Yimobra describes a dense pile of absorbent fibers that soaks up water so you don’t track it across the floor, and says the material dries quickly. The brand also says it holds its shape and texture through repeated machine washes without clumping or tangling, and that you can hand wash or machine wash it.

The backing is the feature Yimobra leans on most. It calls it a patented non-slip TPR bottom with a hexagon, suction-cup-inspired design that anchors the mat in place, and says the structure also keeps water from seeping through to the floor. The listing gives no dryer guidance, so follow the care tag.

It suits family bathrooms, kids’ bathrooms and anyone who wants a plush rug on a TPR base. Yimobra says the two-tone design complements a variety of bathrooms, and that other colors and sizes are available, including options for a kids’ bathroom or a vanity area.

Why we like it

  • TPR hexagon backing
  • Comfortable to kneel on
  • Washer friendly

Watch out for

No dryer instructions are listed, and the pile is close to an inch thick for door clearance.

Key Specifications

TypeMicrofiber, TPR backing

SellerYimobra US
Best Sellers Rank#874 overall; #13 in Bath Rugs (Oct 2026)

Why We Recommend It

Grip is Yimobra’s headline: a “PATENTED NON-SLIP TPR BOTTOM” with a “hexagon suction cup-inspired bottom design that firmly anchors the mat in place.” Alongside Gorilla Grip, it is one of two picks that name TPR.

The pile is “elastic microfiber,” which Yimobra says resists “sinking or flattening,” and it suggests the mat for kneeling while bathing kids. The specs list it at 0.79 inch and one pound, with a 24 x 17-inch size. Yimobra says it survives “numerous machine washes” without clumping. It ranks #13 in Bath Rugs and #874 overall, and Yimobra US sells it.

There is no dryer guidance on the listing, unlike Gorilla Grip’s explicit machine-dry note, and the model and warranty fields are empty. At nearly 0.8 inch, it may not clear a low door the way the Bosap does.

Families who want a soft rug to kneel on with a TPR base should look here. If you’d like the top-ranked chenille option with washer-and-dryer care spelled out, the Gorilla Grip is the safer bet.

Pros

  • TPR bottom with hexagon suction-cup-inspired design, per listing
  • Elastic microfiber pile, per Yimobra
  • Hand or machine washable
  • #13 in Bath Rugs, #874 overall
  • 1 lb, 0.79 in thick (specs)

Cons

  • No dryer instructions given
  • Warranty field empty
  • Model field empty
  • Thick pile may not clear a door

Best for: A family bathroom where kids kneel at the tub and you want a plush rug with a gripping TPR base.

How We Chose the Best Bath Rugs

We started from Amazon listings that were in stock and sold by the brand’s own store, kept one pick per brand, left out mats that go inside the tub, and compared what each listing states:

  • Backing: rubber, TPR, PVC or a sprayed or hot-melt coating, as named on the listing.
  • Pile and thickness: chenille, microfiber, memory foam, terry or waffle, and the stated thickness.
  • Size: the listed dimensions, and whether one rug covers your landing spot.
  • Washing: machine wash and dryer instructions as given.
  • Popularity and listing quality: Amazon sales rank, and whether size and weight fields add up.

Bath Rug Buying Guide

Best Non-Slip Bath Rug: Read the Backing

The backing does the gripping. Gorilla Grip and Yimobra name TPR (thermoplastic rubber), Bosap names rubber, AMOAMI names a clear hot-melt adhesive backing, H.VERSAILTEX an SBE/hot melt spray, and OLANLY uses PVC. Every listing calls its mat non-slip or slip-resistant in some form; those are the brands’ claims, not test results. OLANLY adds a useful note that applies to most rugs: keep the floor under the mat dry, because water underneath can let any backing slide.

Best Memory Foam Bath Mat vs. Chenille

Memory foam gives the most cushion when you stand at the sink or tub; the OLANLY lists one inch of foam under a velvet top. Chenille and microfiber shag (Gorilla Grip, H.VERSAILTEX, Yimobra) feel plush and soak up drips in the pile. OLANLY’s listing also asks you to keep the floor under its foam mat dry, so it suits bathrooms where the mat can be hung up or aired out between showers.

A bath mat on the floor of a peach-toned bathroom

Best Absorbent Bath Mat

Every pick claims to be absorbent. Gorilla Grip calls its chenille its “most absorbent bath rug,” H.VERSAILTEX points to a 2000 g/sm pile, and AMOAMI relies on a double-layer waffle texture. A larger rug simply catches more drips: the OLANLY covers 30 x 20 inches, and the H.VERSAILTEX set adds a 32 x 20 rug plus a 24 x 17.

Best Washable Bathroom Rug

All six can go in the washing machine, but the dryer rules differ. Gorilla Grip says machine wash and dry; Bosap, OLANLY and H.VERSAILTEX say dry on low heat (OLANLY also allows air drying); AMOAMI and Yimobra give no dryer instructions. Most ask for cold water and no chlorine bleach. Wash rugs alongside towels only if the care tags match; our best bath towels guide covers towel care.

Loading towels into a washing machine

Best Thin Bath Mat for Doors and Low Clearance

If the bathroom door swings over the rug, thickness decides. Bosap lists a mat as thin as 0.2 inch and says it fits under a door. AMOAMI’s specs list half an inch. The plush picks run close to an inch (Gorilla Grip, Yimobra, OLANLY), so measure the gap under the door before you order one.

Bath Rugs and Bathroom Falls

The National Institute on Aging’s room-by-room falls checklist advises placing nonskid mats, strips or carpet on all bathroom surfaces that may get wet, mounting grab bars near toilets and on both the inside and outside of the tub and shower, and leaving a light on in the bathroom at night. The same page also says not to use throw rugs or small area rugs, and to check that carpets are fixed firmly to the floor.

Those two points pull in different directions for a bath rug, so here is the plain version. A rug with a gripping backing can help on wet tile, but any loose rug can also be a trip edge, especially a thick foam mat for someone who shuffles or uses a walker or cane. If falls are a concern in your home:

  • Pick a thinner mat with a low edge, like the Bosap, and replace any rug whose backing has cracked or curled.
  • Keep the floor under the rug dry, and shake out or wash the rug before it stays soggy.
  • Add grab bars at the tub; our best bathtub grab bars guide covers stud-mounted options.
  • Put a nonskid mat inside the tub (see our bathtub mat picks) and consider anti-slip tape on slick floors or steps where a rug won’t stay put.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best non-slip bath rug?

Look at the backing first. Gorilla Grip and Yimobra list TPR backings and Bosap lists rubber. Gorilla Grip’s chenille rug is our top pick, ranking #2 in Amazon’s Bath Rugs category. Non-slip claims are the brands’ own, and keeping the floor under the rug dry helps any backing grip.

Is a memory foam bath mat a good idea?

Memory foam gives the most cushion for standing at the sink or tub. The OLANLY lists one inch of foam on a PVC backing and says to keep the floor underneath dry. The raised foam edge can be a trip hazard for someone who shuffles or uses a walker.

Which bath mat fits under a bathroom door?

A thin one. The Bosap lists a thickness as low as 0.2 inch and says it fits under a door. Plush chenille and foam rugs close to an inch thick often catch the door.

Can you put a bath rug in the washer and dryer?

All six picks are machine washable. Gorilla Grip says machine wash and dry; Bosap, OLANLY and H.VERSAILTEX call for low-heat drying; AMOAMI and Yimobra list no dryer instructions. Most ask for cold water and no chlorine bleach.

Do bath rugs help prevent falls?

The National Institute on Aging advises nonskid mats, strips or carpet on bathroom surfaces that may get wet, plus grab bars at the tub and toilet. It also warns against throw rugs and small area rugs, so choose a rug with a gripping backing and a low edge, and replace it when the backing wears.

The Bottom Line

For most bathrooms, the Gorilla Grip chenille rug is the best bath rug to start with: top-ranked, plush, TPR-backed and safe for the washer and dryer. The Bosap is the thin mat for doors and low edges, the OLANLY brings the most memory foam cushion, the H.VERSAILTEX set covers two spots at once, the AMOAMI waffle mat stays flatter, and the Yimobra pairs a fluffy pile with a TPR base. Pair any of them with grab bars and a dry floor underneath.
