Feel a cold line of air along the edge of a closed door? The best weather stripping for doors is the one that matches the gap you actually have and the frame you actually own. A kerf seal that presses into a slot in a modern exterior door frame is a different product from a peel-and-stick foam tape, and neither is the right answer for an aluminum sliding window, where a brush pile strip makes more sense.
This guide covers the sides and tops of doors and the sashes of windows. Seals for the bottom of a door, such as sweeps and draft blockers, have their own guide to the best door draft stopper.
We compared seven seals sold by Amazon.com or by the brand’s own store: two press-in kerf seals, three adhesive foam tapes, a brush pile strip and a clear silicone seal. Every fact comes from the listings, and we flag empty or odd fields. All seven sit in our lowest price tier, so this is an inexpensive fix whichever type you need.

1. Litaibai 40 ft Kerf Door Seal: Best Overall for Exterior Doors
Litaibai’s kerf seal is a replacement strip for exterior doors whose frames have a thin groove, or kerf, cut into the jamb. Instead of sticking to the frame, the seal has a flange that presses into that slot, and a foam bulb sits against the door when it closes. Many modern pre-hung exterior doors use this kind of seal, and after years of use it tends to crack, flatten or get chewed by pets.
The listing is specific about fit: it says the seal fits 1/8-inch kerf slots and 1/4- to 1/2-inch closed door gaps, and it warns that it is for pre-cut kerf frames only and is not self-adhesive. Litaibai’s advice is to measure before ordering, which is worth taking literally. Check the slot width with the old seal pulled out and measure the gap between the closed door and the jamb.
Installation, per the listing, is to remove the old seal, clean the kerf groove, measure and cut, then press the flange firmly into place. The roll is 40 feet, which Litaibai says can be cut to fit multiple doors. The material is described as resilient PU foam inside a tough PE cover that compresses and rebounds to keep the seal snug, and the brand says it helps reduce cold drafts, light leaks, outside noise and heating or cooling loss.
It suits homeowners with front, back or garage entry doors that already have a kerf slot and a tired seal. Doors and windows without a slot need an adhesive or screw-on product instead.
Why we like it
- Presses in, no glue
- Enough length for several doors
- Clear stated gap range
Watch out for
It only works in a frame with a 1/8-inch kerf slot, so pull the old seal and check the groove before ordering.
Key Specifications
| Type | Press-in kerf seal, PU foam with PE cover |
|---|---|
| Type | Press-in kerf seal (not self-adhesive) |
| Fit (listing) | 1/8″ kerf slot; 1/4″–1/2″ closed door gap |

| Size | 480 x 0.6 x 0.04 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | MFT-B-40; made by Litaibai Store |
| Seller | Litaibai |
| Best Sellers Rank | #672 overall; #5 in Weather Stripping (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Fit is spelled out better here than on any other pick: the listing says it “fits 1/8″ kerf slots and 1/4″–1/2″ closed door gaps,” and warns “For pre-cut kerf frames only; not self-adhesive. Measure before ordering.” Only the Ravinte, the other kerf seal, gives a slot size, and it gives no gap range.
Length is the next advantage. At 40 feet it is the longest roll on the page, ahead of the 33-foot Bantie and UpinFun rolls and four times the Frost King’s 10 feet. The size field (480 inches) matches. Litaibai describes “Resilient PU foam with a tough PE cover” that “compresses and rebounds.”
The evidence on demand is strong: #5 in Weather Stripping and #672 overall, second only to the Bantie. The seller is Litaibai, the brand’s own store. Warranty and weight fields are empty, and white is the only color in this listing, which may not suit a dark door frame.
Owners of pre-hung exterior doors with a worn kerf seal should start here. Anyone whose frame has no slot can’t use it, and should look at the Frost King or Bantie tapes.
Pros
- #5 in Weather Stripping, #672 overall
- Longest roll here: 40 ft
- Listed fit: 1/8″ kerf slots, 1/4″–1/2″ closed door gaps
- No adhesive to fail in the cold
- Sold by the brand’s own store (Litaibai)
Cons
- Kerf frames only; not self-adhesive, per the listing
- White only in this listing
- Warranty field empty
- Weight field empty
Best for: A homeowner replacing cracked or flattened foam seals in a pre-slotted exterior door frame.
2. Ravinte Q-Shaped Kerf Foam Strip, 26 ft: Best Q-Shaped Kerf Alternative
Ravinte’s strip is a Q-shaped kerf seal: a foam bulb with a tail that pushes into the groove in a door frame. The Q shape gives the bulb a hollow, rounded face that squeezes against the door when it closes and springs back when it opens. Like other kerf seals, it is a replacement part for frames that already have a slot.
The listing says the strip is flexible enough to fit slots from 0.35 to 0.59 inches and asks buyers to check the slot they need to seal before ordering. It does not give a range for the gap between door and jamb, so compare the bulb against the old seal you are replacing. Ravinte says it needs no adhesive, will not leave marks and stays put once inserted into the groove or recess.
Day to day, a kerf seal should be invisible until the door closes. Ravinte describes a high-density foam core that blocks light from showing around the door, and claims the seal protects against air leakage in winter and summer, adds sound insulation and helps keep out dust and water. The roll is 26 feet in black.
It suits homeowners with a black or dark-painted exterior door who want a press-in replacement and who have measured the slot. The model field in the listing data holds only a placeholder, so note the ASIN if you want to reorder the same strip.
Why we like it
- Press-in fit, no glue
- Q profile with a hollow bulb
- Black finish
Watch out for
The listing gives a slot range but no door gap range, so hold the old seal next to the product photos before you buy.
Key Specifications
| Type | Press-in kerf seal, Q profile, high-density foam |
|---|---|
| Type | Press-in Q-shaped kerf seal |
| Fit (listing) | Slots from 0.35″ to 0.59″ |

| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | Not stated in listing |
| Seller | Ravinte |
| Best Sellers Rank | #1,571 overall; #10 in Weather Stripping (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Black is the practical reason to pick Ravinte over the white Litaibai. Both press into a kerf groove, and Ravinte says the seal “requires no adhesive and will not leave marks.”
The stated fit is different: “flexible to fit slots from 0.35″ to 0.59″,” with a reminder to “check the slot you need to seal before ordering.” Litaibai lists a 1/8-inch kerf and a 1/4 to 1/2-inch door gap, while Ravinte gives no door gap range at all. That gap is the bigger unknown, so compare the bulb against your old seal.
Demand is solid at #10 in Weather Stripping and #1,571 overall. Ravinte sells it through its own store. The model field holds only a placeholder, warranty and weight are empty, and the size field (6.5 x 6.5 x 2 inches) describes the package, not the strip. At 26 feet it is shorter than the Litaibai, Bantie and UpinFun rolls.
Pick it if you have a dark kerf-slot door and your slot measures in Ravinte’s range. If you want the clearest fit guidance, the Litaibai is the safer order.
Pros
- #10 in Weather Stripping, #1,571 overall
- No adhesive; listing says it leaves no marks
- Listed slot fit: 0.35″ to 0.59″
- Black, for darker frames
- Sold by the brand’s own store (Ravinte)
Cons
- Model field not stated (placeholder “1” in the products file)
- Shorter roll than the Litaibai: 26 ft
- Listing doesn’t state a door gap range
- Warranty and weight fields empty
Best for: An owner of a kerf-slot exterior door who wants a black seal and has checked the slot against Ravinte’s stated fit.
3. Bantie 33 ft EVA Foam Weather Stripping: Most Popular Foam Weather Stripping Tape
Bantie’s 33-foot roll is a black EVA foam tape with an adhesive back. You peel the liner, press the foam onto the door stop or window frame, and the door or sash squeezes it shut when it closes. It is the classic do-it-yourself weather seal for frames that have no kerf slot.
Bantie leads with its adhesive: the listing calls it a newly upgraded mesh adhesive and says the grid lines keep the glue attached to the strip. It describes the foam as soft and larger than common foam strips, cut to any length, waterproof and insulating. The bullets do not state a width or thickness, so check the product photos or the size chart on the page before you match it to a gap.
One bullet is muddled. Under a “100% EVA material” heading, it goes on to praise silicone’s density, toughness and temperature resistance, so it is unclear what comparison Bantie means. Treat the material as EVA foam, which is what the title and heading say. The listing also names a long list of other uses, from refrigerators and RVs to table corners and sofa legs.
For daily use, plan on a clean, dry surface before you press it on, since any foam tape is only as good as its bond. It suits budget shoppers sealing interior or exterior door stops and window frames who want a long roll.
Why we like it
- Long 33-foot roll
- Peel-and-stick install
- Very popular in its category
Watch out for
No width or thickness appears in the bullets, and the material bullet is confusingly written, so confirm the size on the listing page.
Key Specifications
| Type | Self-adhesive EVA foam tape |
|---|---|
| Type | Self-adhesive EVA foam tape |

| Adhesive | Mesh adhesive backing (per listing) |
| Color | Black |
| Size | 10.6 x 10.6 x 0.1 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | MFTT-0017 |
| Seller | Bantie |
| Best Sellers Rank | #327 overall; #2 in Weather Stripping (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Popularity leads the case: #2 in Weather Stripping and #327 overall, the best rank on this page. Bantie sells it from its own store, and the roll is 33 feet, matching the UpinFun and second only to the Litaibai.
The adhesive is Bantie’s main claim: an “upgraded mesh adhesive” that “ensures the longest adhesion.” It also calls the foam “larger than the common foam strips on the market.” Those are brand claims, and the bullets don’t back them with a width or thickness, unlike the Frost King (3/4 x 1/2 inch) or MAGZO (1 x 1 inch).
The materials bullet is the weak spot. Headed “100% EVA material,” it then says “silicone has higher density, better toughness, longer lifespan,” which reads as a garbled comparison. The long list of other uses, from “refrigerators” to “sofa legs,” adds little. Warranty and weight fields are empty, and the size field (10.6 x 10.6 x 0.1 inches) describes the packed roll.
Budget buyers sealing several door stops or window frames will get the most foam per pack here. Shoppers who want an exact size before buying will be happier with the Frost King.
Pros
- Best rank here: #2 in Weather Stripping, #327 overall
- 33 ft roll
- Mesh-backed adhesive, per Bantie
- Cuts to any length
- Sold by the brand’s own store (Bantie)
Cons
- No width or thickness in the bullets
- Materials bullet compares silicone and EPDM in a confusing way
- Long list of non-door uses pads the copy
- Warranty and weight fields empty
Best for: A renter or homeowner who wants an inexpensive peel-and-stick foam seal for a door stop or window frame and will check the profile in the photos.
4. Frost King V734H Vinyl Foam Tape: Best Value Foam Tape for One Door
Frost King’s V734H is a self-stick vinyl foam tape in gray, sized at 3/4 inch wide, 1/2 inch thick and 10 feet long. It goes on the door stop or window frame where the moving part closes against it, and the foam compresses to fill the gap.
The key words in the listing are closed cell and moderate compression. Frost King says moderate compression fits irregular gaps, and it calls the tape 100% waterproof and weather resistant. That waterproof claim is the brand’s, but it is the reason to consider this tape for an exterior door that sees rain.
Coverage is modest. The listing says one roll fits one average size window or door, so a home with several drafty openings will need several rolls. Installation is the usual routine for any foam tape: clean and dry the surface, cut to length, peel and press. Frost King says the tape is made in the USA.
It suits homeowners sealing one door or window at a time who like knowing the exact width and thickness before buying, on any frame where the door or sash closes against a flat stop. The listing’s Amazon category is Duct Tape, a filing quirk rather than a different product.
Why we like it
- Width and thickness clearly stated
- Closed-cell foam
- Made in the USA
Watch out for
One 10-foot roll covers about one door or window, so count your openings before ordering.
Key Specifications
| Type | Self-stick closed-cell vinyl foam tape |
|---|---|
| Type | Self-stick vinyl foam tape, closed cell |
| Size | 3/4″ W x 1/2″ thick x 10 ft |
| Compression | Moderate (per listing) |
| Coverage | One average window or door (per listing) |
| Size | 0.75 x 9.25 x 11.25 in |
| Listed weight | The specs field reads “0 pounds,” a placeholder; actual weight not stated. |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | V734H |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #6,158 overall; #80 in Duct Tape (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Exact numbers set the V734H apart: “3/4 inch wide by 1/2 inch thick by 10′ long,” plus “Closed Cell” and “Moderate Compression – fits irregular gaps.” Among the foam tapes, only MAGZO is as specific, and Bantie gives no width or thickness.
Frost King also calls it “100% waterproof and weather resistant” and “Made in the USA.” It is the only pick sold by Amazon.com itself; the rest come from brand stores.
Coverage is the trade-off. The listing says it “Fits one average size window or door,” and 10 feet is the shortest roll here, a quarter of the Litaibai. Amazon files it under Duct Tape (#80, #6,158 overall), so its rank isn’t directly comparable with the weather stripping ranks of the others. The weight field reads “0 pounds,” a placeholder, and the warranty field is empty.
One drafty door or window is the ideal job for it. Anyone sealing a whole house will spend less effort ordering one 33-foot roll such as the Bantie.
Pros
- Exact size listed: 3/4″ W x 1/2″ thick x 10 ft
- Closed cell, moderate compression for irregular gaps
- “100% waterproof and weather resistant,” per listing
- Made in the USA, per listing
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Shortest roll here: 10 ft
- Ranked in Duct Tape (#80), #6,158 overall
- Weight field reads “0 pounds” (placeholder)
- Warranty field empty
Best for: Someone sealing a single drafty door or window who wants a known brand and a clearly stated width and thickness.
5. UpinFun 33 ft Brush Pile Weather Stripping: Best for Sliding Doors and Windows
UpinFun’s strip is pile, or brush, weather stripping: a dense row of soft fibers on an adhesive base. Unlike foam, which needs a door to close against it, brush pile lets a panel slide past while the fibers fill the gap. That makes it the usual choice for sliding patio doors, sliding windows and closet doors.
The title lists the size as 0.35 inch wide by 0.2 inch thick in a 33-foot roll, in gray. UpinFun describes 5P high-density soft hair made from woven material, and claims wear resistance, corrosion resistance and anti-aging sealing that is windproof, rainproof, dustproof and soundproof.
For daily use, the strip stays out of the way. The brand’s list of fits covers glass doors, aluminum doors and windows, plastic-steel windows, wooden doors, security doors, sliding doors, closets and cabinets. Install advice is short: measure the gap, cut what you need and press it on. The listing claims the adhesive is strong and not easy to come unstuck.
It suits households with a drafty slider who need something that will not stop the panel from moving, including renters who want a low-profile fix along an aluminum track. At 0.2 inch thick, it is meant for narrow gaps, not wide ones.
Why we like it
- Panels still slide freely
- Long 33-foot roll
- Thin, low-profile strip
Watch out for
At 0.2 inch thick, it is a small-gap product; measure the gap along the slider first.
Key Specifications
| Type | Self-adhesive brush pile strip |
|---|---|
| Type | Self-adhesive brush (pile) strip |
| Size | 0.35″ W x 0.2″ thick |
| Length | 33 ft |
| Color | Gray |
| Size | 396 x 0.35 x 0.1 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | MT6623; made by upinfun |
| Seller | UpinFun |
| Best Sellers Rank | #1,187 overall; #7 in Weather Stripping (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Sliding panels need a seal they can move past, and the UpinFun strip is the only brush pile product on this list. The title gives the size as “0.35″ Wide x 0.2″ Thick” in 33 feet, and the size field (396 inches) agrees.
UpinFun describes “5P High-Density Soft Hair” made of “woven material” and claims it is “windproof, rainproof, dustproof, anti-collision, soundproof.” Its list of fits names “glass doors, aluminum doors windows, plastic steel windows, wooden doors, security doors, sliding doors, closets.” The foam picks would drag on a sliding sash; this one is built for it.
Demand is good: #7 in Weather Stripping and #1,187 overall, third best here. UpinFun sells it from its own store. Amazon files it under Automotive Parts and Accessories, a category quirk. Warranty and weight fields are empty, and the bullets are loosely written.
Owners of drafty sliders should choose it. At 0.2 inch thick it is wrong for a wide gap; the MAGZO foam handles those.
Pros
- #7 in Weather Stripping, #1,187 overall
- Size listed: 0.35″ W x 0.2″ thick x 33 ft
- High-density brush lets the panel slide
- Listing names glass, aluminum and sliding doors
- Sold by the brand’s own store (UpinFun)
Cons
- Thin profile; for small gaps only
- Listed under Automotive Parts and Accessories
- Bullets are loosely worded
- Warranty and weight fields empty
Best for: A homeowner or renter with a sliding patio door or sliding window that leaks air along the track or meeting rail.
6. Benory T-Shaped Silicone Door Seal, 20 ft: Best Clear Silicone Door Seal
Benory’s seal is a clear silicone strip with a T-shaped profile. Instead of one sticky face, it has two: one attaches along the side of the door and one along the front, which Benory says gives a more secure, stable hold during everyday use. The flexible silicone section then closes against the frame.
The listing says the soft silicone conforms to door gaps, and the clear design blends with different door colors. Benory claims it helps close gaps around door frames to reduce drafts and indoor air loss, and helps reduce outside noise. It measures 1.38 inches wide and comes in a 20-foot roll.
Installation is laid out step by step: clean and dry the surface, measure and cut to length, then peel and press both adhesive faces firmly into place. Benory adds a useful note for winter installs: in cold weather, briefly warm the adhesive backing with a hair dryer to help it stick. The listing names front, back, other exterior and garage entry doors as fits, and tells buyers to check the gap size and mounting surface first.
It suits homeowners who care how a door looks and want a seal that is hard to spot. No gap range is given, so measure and compare against the product photos.
Why we like it
- Nearly invisible clear finish
- Two-face adhesive hold
- Cold-weather install tip
Watch out for
No gap size range is listed, and the two-face design takes more care to line up than a strip of foam.
Key Specifications
| Type | Self-adhesive T-shaped silicone seal, clear |
|---|---|
| Type | T-shaped silicone, self-adhesive on two faces |
| Width | 1.38″ (35 mm) |
| Length | 20 ft |
| Color | Clear |
| Size | 236.4 x 1.37 x 0.04 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | T-35MM |
| Seller | Benory |
| Best Sellers Rank | #3,711 overall; #21 in Weather Stripping (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Looks are the reason to pay attention to Benory: “the clear design blends with different door colors.” Every other pick is black, white or gray.
The mounting differs too. It “uses two adhesive surfaces that attach along the door side and front for a more secure, stable hold.” Benory is also the only listing with a cold-weather install tip: “briefly warm the adhesive backing with a hair dryer to help improve adhesion.”
Benory sells it from its own store. It ranks #21 in Weather Stripping and #3,711 overall, behind the Bantie, Litaibai, UpinFun and Ravinte. The roll is 20 feet at 1.38 inches wide, and the size field (236.4 inches) matches. No gap range is stated; the listing says to “Check the gap size and mounting surface before ordering.” Warranty and weight fields are empty.
Homeowners with a painted or stained front door who don’t want foam showing should consider it. If you need a stated gap range, the Litaibai or Frost King tells you more.
Pros
- Clear silicone blends with door colors, per listing
- Two adhesive faces (door side and front)
- Listing gives a cold-weather tip: warm the backing with a hair dryer
- #21 in Weather Stripping, #3,711 overall
- Sold by the brand’s own store (Benory)
Cons
- No gap size range stated
- Shorter roll: 20 ft
- Two-face install is fussier than plain tape
- Warranty and weight fields empty
Best for: Someone sealing a front door whose color or finish they don’t want hidden behind black or gray foam.
7. MAGZO 1 in x 1 in Foam Weather Stripping, 13 ft: Best for Large Gaps and Window AC Units
MAGZO’s foam is a chunky one-inch-square seal sold as two 6.5-foot rolls, for 13 feet in total. It has a single adhesive side and is made, per the listing, of CR foam and neoprene. Much of the listing is written around window air conditioners, where it says the foam can seal 1-inch gaps around the unit.
The bullets describe a high-resilience foam that recovers its shape after compression, with air holes combined with high-density foam for shock protection. MAGZO calls the adhesive high-strength and says it keeps the seal from shifting once applied. It also claims the foam absorbs 80% of vibrations, a figure we attribute to the brand.
Installation is a three-step routine from the listing: measure and cut with scissors, clean the surfaces and wait until dry, then press firmly. MAGZO names garage doors, irregular wall penetrations, fridges, autos and marine equipment, and says it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. The stated temperature range is −40°F to 93°F, even though another bullet says it can withstand high outdoor temperatures in basements and garages.
It suits homeowners who need to fill a big gap, especially around a window AC unit or a rough garage entry door. For a normal door stop, one inch of foam is likely too much.
Why we like it
- Fills wide gaps
- Low listed temperature limit
- Two rolls in the pack
Watch out for
The listed range tops out at 93°F, which seems low for a hot garage, and one inch is too thick for most door jambs.
Key Specifications
| Type | Self-adhesive CR/neoprene foam tape, 2 rolls |
|---|---|
| Type | Self-adhesive CR foam/neoprene tape |
| Size | 1″ W x 1″ thick, 2 x 6.5 ft rolls |
| Temperature range (listing) | −40°F to 93°F |
| Install | Measure and cut, clean and dry, press |
| Size | 156 x 1 x 0.04 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
| Model | Not stated in listing |
| Seller | Magzo |
| Best Sellers Rank | #17,687 overall; #116 in Weather Stripping (Oct 2026) |
Why We Recommend It
Size is the whole point: “1 inch W x 1 inch T x 6.5 ft L x 2 rolls,” the thickest seal on the page by double the Frost King. It is the only pick that lists a temperature range, “from -40°F to 93°F.”
MAGZO aims it at gaps the others can’t fill: it “can seal 1″ gaps around window AC units” and names “garage doors, or irregular wall penetrations.” The listing says it is made of “CR foam and neoprene,” and claims the foam absorbs “80% vibrations,” a brand figure.
The evidence is thinner here. It has the weakest rank on the page, #116 in Weather Stripping and #17,687 overall. MAGZO sells it through its own store. Model, warranty and weight fields are empty. The 93°F ceiling also sits oddly next to a bullet saying it “can withstand high temperatures outdoor such as basements and garages.” At 13 feet total, only the Frost King is shorter.
People sealing a window AC unit or a rough garage entry should look here first. For a standard door jamb, an inch of foam is too much; choose the Litaibai or Frost King.
Pros
- Thickest pick: 1″ W x 1″ thick
- Listed temperature range: −40°F to 93°F
- Two 6.5 ft rolls (13 ft total)
- CR foam and neoprene, per listing
- Sold by the brand’s own store (Magzo)
Cons
- Weakest rank here: #116 in Weather Stripping, #17,687 overall
- Listed upper limit (93°F) sits oddly with its “high temperatures” claim
- Too thick for normal door stops
- Model, warranty and weight fields empty
Best for: Someone sealing a window AC unit, a garage entry or another wide, irregular gap that thin tape can’t fill.
How We Chose the Best Weather Stripping for Doors and Windows
We started with seals for door jambs, door heads and window sashes, left out bottom-of-door sweeps and blockers, and kept only listings that were in stock and sold by Amazon.com or the brand’s own store. Then we compared:
- Profile and mounting: press-in kerf, peel-and-stick foam, brush pile or two-face silicone.
- Stated fit: kerf slot width, gap range, width and thickness, as each listing gives them.
- Length per pack: from 10 feet to 40 feet.
- Adhesive and cold-weather notes: what the brand says about installing and the listed temperature range, where given.
- Seller, rank and empty fields: Amazon sales rank, who sells it, and any placeholder or missing specs.
We allowed one product per brand. Every pick fell into our lowest price tier, so price did not separate them.

Weather Stripping Buying Guide
The U.S. Department of Energy’s guide to insulation and air sealing draws a simple line: caulk is generally used for cracks between stationary parts, such as around door and window frames, while weatherstripping is used to seal components that move, such as doors and operable windows. It calls caulking and weatherstripping two simple and effective air-sealing techniques that often pay for themselves in one year or less. ENERGY STAR’s Seal and Insulate page names installing weather stripping on doors as one of the simple fixes, and says sealing air leaks and adding insulation can provide up to a 10% savings on annual energy bills. Those are program estimates, not a promise for any one product.
Best Door Weather Stripping: Measure the Gap First
Close the door and look at the gap between the door and the stop on the hinge side, the latch side and the top. A strip that is too thin leaves light showing; one that is too thick can stop the door from latching. Only some listings give a gap range: Litaibai says 1/4 to 1/2 inch for a closed door, Frost King gives 1/2 inch of thickness, UpinFun 0.2 inch and MAGZO a full inch. Benory and Ravinte don’t state a door gap range.
Kerf Seals vs Adhesive Strips
Pull back the old seal on an exterior door. If it comes out of a thin groove in the jamb, you have a kerf frame, and a press-in seal such as the Litaibai or Ravinte is the like-for-like replacement with no glue to fail. If the old seal was stuck on, or there was none, you need an adhesive product. Check the slot width: Litaibai lists 1/8 inch, and Ravinte lists 0.35 to 0.59 inch.
Best Foam Weather Stripping Tape
Foam tape is the cheapest and simplest option for door stops and window frames that close against a flat surface. Frost King’s V734H states its size and calls itself closed cell; Bantie’s 33-foot roll is the most popular here but doesn’t list a width or thickness in its bullets; MAGZO’s one-inch foam is for wide gaps such as window AC units.

Best Weather Stripping for Windows
For double-hung and casement windows that close against a frame, foam tape on the stop or sash works. For sliders, choose brush pile like the UpinFun strip, because it lets the sash move. Leave the top sash of a window you open often for last, and check that the window still opens and locks after the seal goes on.
Best Rubber Door Seal Strip and V-Seal Options
EPDM rubber D- and P-profile strips and V-strip (a folded strip that springs open against the frame) are common in hardware stores, but none of the rubber or V-seal listings in our candidate set met our seller and stock rules this time, so we didn’t include them. If you shop for one, look for the same things: a stated gap range, the length per pack, and the install temperature. Benory’s clear silicone is the closest flexible-rubber-style option on this list.
Cold-Weather Installation and Adhesive
Adhesive is the weak point of any peel-and-stick seal, and Benory’s own cold-weather tip is a sign that low temperatures make bonding harder. Benory and MAGZO both tell you to clean and dry the surface first, and it is sensible advice for any adhesive strip. Benory also says to warm the adhesive backing briefly with a hair dryer in cold weather. MAGZO lists a temperature range of −40°F to 93°F; none of the other picks list one. If you can, install on a mild day, and press each strip firmly along its full length.

Don’t Forget the Bottom of the Door and the Glass
Weather stripping covers the sides and top. For the gap under a door, see our guide to the best door draft stopper. For drafty single-pane glass, a shrink-film kit from our best window insulation kit guide adds a layer in front of the window. A smart thermostat can then help you see whether the house holds heat better.
Keep Doors and Windows Usable, and Check Your Coverage
A tighter seal is only an improvement if the door still latches and the window still opens. Ready.gov’s home fire guidance says to make sure windows are not stuck, so after you install any seal, open and close every window and door you’d use to get out in an emergency. If a strip makes a bedroom window hard to open, use a thinner one or skip it there. Our fire escape ladder guide covers second-floor exits.

Drafts are not the only thing a worn seal lets in. Wind-driven rain can get past a failed door seal and into the floor and trim. Whether your policy would respond to that kind of damage depends on the cause and your policy wording, so ask your agent. Our Ohio homeowners insurance guide and renters insurance costs in Ohio explain the basics.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best weather stripping for doors?
It depends on the frame. For an exterior door with a kerf slot, a press-in seal such as the Litaibai 40 ft (1/8-inch kerf, 1/4 to 1/2-inch gap, per its listing) replaces the original. For a frame with no slot, an adhesive foam tape such as the Frost King V734H or Bantie EVA roll goes on the door stop.
What is the best weather stripping for windows?
For windows that close against a frame, foam tape on the stop or sash works. For sliding windows and patio doors, brush pile such as the UpinFun strip lets the panel move. Afterward, check that every window still opens easily.
How do I measure for weather stripping?
Close the door or window and measure the gap between it and the stop at several points, then measure the total length of the edges you plan to seal. For kerf seals, pull the old strip and check the slot width. Compare both numbers with the listing’s stated fit.
Will weather stripping stick in cold weather?
Adhesive bonds best on clean, dry, not-too-cold surfaces. Benory and MAGZO both say to clean and dry the surface first, and Benory adds that you should warm its adhesive backing with a hair dryer in cold weather. Press-in kerf seals use no adhesive at all.
Does weather stripping lower energy bills?
The Department of Energy says caulking and weatherstripping often pay for themselves in one year or less, and ENERGY STAR says sealing air leaks and adding insulation can save up to 10% on annual energy bills. Results vary by home, and individual product claims are the brands’ own.
The Bottom Line
For most exterior doors with a slotted frame, the Litaibai 40 ft kerf seal is the best weather stripping for doors: a press-in replacement with a clearly stated fit and enough length for several doors. The Ravinte Q-shaped strip is a black kerf alternative. For frames without a slot, the Bantie EVA roll is the most popular foam tape, and the Frost King V734H states its exact size. Sliders call for the UpinFun brush pile, painted doors suit the clear Benory silicone, and wide gaps or window AC units suit the one-inch MAGZO foam. Measure first, and make sure every door and window still opens.
